Invisalign Vs Braces

Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners for a comfortable, flexible teeth-straightening experience, while traditional braces use brackets and wires to align the teeth. Both forms of treatment have pros and cons, but our team is here to customize the best treatment plan for you. We are proud to guide you toward the brilliant smile you deserve.

The length of orthodontic treatment varies according to the unique position of the teeth and the treatment time can range from approximately 6 months to 3 years.

Patients wear each Invisalign aligner for about 1-2 weeks, removing it only for eating, brushing and flossing. Visits to the orthodontist are generally scheduled at regular intervals. As you go through the sequence of aligners, your teeth will move gradually until the conclusion of your treatment. Invisalign FAQ

1. Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

We offer a free consultation to assess you and see if Invisalign is right for you.

2. How often must I wear my aligners?

Your aligners should only be removed to eat, drink, brush and floss. Otherwise, you should be wearing them.

3. Are there restrictions on what I can eat and drink while in treatment?

No! Unlike traditional wires and brackets, you may eat whatever you like while in treatment! It is important to brush your teeth and aligners after eating prior to re-inserting them to maintain proper hygiene. It is important to take out aligners to drink anything other than water to avoid stains and cavities.

4. Will wearing aligners affect my speech?

Like any type of orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period. The more you talk – the quicker you’ll adjust!

5. Is there much discomfort with Invisalign treatment?

Typically described as pressure, minor discomfort for a day or two is experienced at the initial insertion of each new stage. This is a sign that your aligners are doing their job.

6. Will cigarette smoking stain the aligners?

We discourage smoking with aligners because it is possible for them to become discolored.

7. Can I chew gum?

Gum will stick to the aligners; remove them to chew or snack.

8. What’s the best way to clean aligners?

Brushing them with a gentle toothpaste and lukewarm water will keep them clean and fresh. Using any denture cleaner with warm water also works well.

9. What happens after treatment to prevent my teeth from moving?

Retainers. All orthodontic patients (whether traditional braces or Invisalign cases) are instructed to wear retainers forever (just at night!). Studies and statistics provided by the American Association of Orthodontists have shown that teeth can and will move at any time. Sleeping in retainers at night forever ensures a healthy bite and fabulous smile will be maintained for life!
